Fujiwara Kagehira
Kagehira was the eldest son of Takahira, the first-generation Kanewaka, and assisted his father in sword making, sometimes producing blades on his behalf. He served the Maeda clan of Kaga and was one of the best-known swordsmiths of the Kanewaka school in the province.
His personal name was Tsujimura Shirōemon. When his father changed his smith name from Kanewaka to Takahira, he adopted the name Kagehira. Although he never signed his swords as “Kanewaka,” he is effectively regarded as the second generation of the Kanewaka lineage.
The Kanewaka name was later inherited by his younger brother Matasuke, and the school continued to prosper through successive generations.
