Aoki Tadaharu was one of the early disciples of the distinguished Noh mask master Ishikura Koshun.
Ishikura Koshun was one of the important Noh mask makers of the Showa period and played a significant role in preserving and transmitting the traditional art of Noh mask carving. He was active alongside other leading mask makers of his generation and was also highly influential as a teacher, training a number of craftsmen who later became accomplished Noh mask artists in their own right.
As one of Ishikura Koshun's early students, Aoki Tadaharu belongs to this important lineage of modern Noh mask making. His work therefore reflects not only his own craftsmanship, but also the techniques and artistic traditions passed down through the Ishikura school.
