Toshiyuki Kojima

Born May 26, 1949 in Nayoro, Hokkaido, the eldest son of Shoichi and Kyoko Kojima of Ingenuity. After graduating from elementary school in 1963, he moved to Onyu Onsen, Aomori Prefecture, to live with Zenji Sato and attended Toei Junior High School in Kuroishi City. Zenji held a kokeshi doll workshop at Toei Junior High School and taught kokeshi doll making to students who wanted to learn. Upon graduating from junior high school in 1965, Toshiyuki became Zenji Sato's apprentice and began full-scale training in kokeshi making. In 1966, Rokuchihide Abo, one year his junior from the kokeshi class, joined Zenji's apprenticeship. He began making kokeshis around 1967.
In February 1968, Tokio Shikama asked Zenji Sato to make Itaro Sato molds, and Toshiyuki Kojima and Rokuchihide Abo also started making Itaro molds. Toshiyuki Kojima and Rokuchihide Abo also started making Itaro kata in April 1969.
He served as president of the craftsmen's association and contributed to the development of Tsugaru kokeshi after the death of Zenji Sato, who passed away on December 14, 2012, at the age of 63.
After Toshiyuki's death, his eldest daughter, Toshika, succeeded him.
