Hirosaki Myochin Ki Munehide (弘前明珍紀宗英)

Myochin Ki Munehide was a Japanese armor craftsman associated with Hirosaki, in present-day Aomori Prefecture. His name appears on signed works of samurai armor, including iron kabuto (helmets).

The Hirosaki branch of the Myochin school served the local feudal domain during the Edo period (1603–1868).

The Myochin School

The Myochin school was one of Japan's most prestigious and influential traditions of armor-making, with documented origins dating back to the Muromachi period (1336–1573).

Renowned for their exceptional iron-forging techniques, Myochin craftsmen specialized in producing durable, finely constructed samurai helmets and armor.

During the Edo period, the school expanded throughout Japan, with its craftsmen serving various feudal lords. Their work remains highly regarded for its craftsmanship and historical significance.
